I think we need to be honest both about the good and the bad. Presenting only the good side, doesn't mean you love your country more. It only means you are too proud to admit something needs improvement. That is what I tried to do in this post.
It is indeed and unfortunately it has a big impact in the diversity of the country (your topic😉). Many people will leave after a few years, because they feel unwelcome. Very long topic, but hygge racism is definitely part of the problem.
Wow this is a harsh commentary to read. I imagine tourists would visit and notice how everything is so 'characteristic' and 'neat', but this is the kind of underbelly that not everyone would experience just passing by. I am grateful you're able (and willing) to also express the country's negatives! Great article
Hi Barbs, thanks for the comment. I am of the opinion that if you love a place, you want it to improve. So as I replied to Paola, we need to present both the good and the bad side. The good, so we continue doing it. The bad, so we improve it.
Unfortunately, the consensus is that the more you brag about your country, the more of a patriot you are. I couldn't disagree more. If patriot means I don't want my home to be better, then I guess I am not a patriot.
I really like your perspective! More often than not a patriot is someone who likes their Country as is (for laziness, or legacy) but you’re absolutely right in wanting a Country to get better! It’s logical, isn’t it?!
Learning the dark side of hygge feels like learning that Santa isn't real.

A very balanced view
Interesting to read this "dark side" of Hygge.
